Opportunities range from research projects to docent positions, event support, customer service and exhibition installation. SAC is looking for volunteers interested helping out for special events and projects as well as those interested in committing to a regular schedule. Volunteering at SAC is a great way to assist an organization dedicated to supporting artists. During your volunteer experience you will meet like minded folks, have a hands-on meaningful work experience with the nations oldest non-profit craft organization, make a difference in the lives of contemporary crafts artists and help SAC better and expand essential programming. The internship has a shared focus between event planning, artist relations and arts administration allowing the intern to gain valuable experience in preparation for entry into today’s competitive job market. CRAFTBOSTON is the premiere New England exhibition and sale of contemporary craft. The show features 175 of the most outstanding artists of our time, showcasing one-of-a-kind and limited-edition pieces in baskets, ceramics, decorative fiber, wearables, furniture, glass, jewelry, leather, metal, mixed media, paper and wood. CRAFTBOSTON is a large programmatic component of The Society of Arts and Crafts. Established in 1897, SAC is the oldest non-profit crafts organization in the United States. Our mission is to support excellence in crafts by encouraging the creation, exhibition, collection and conservation of the work of craft artists and by educating and promoting public awareness of fine craft. Interns work directly with the Show Director and Programs Manager on a variety of tasks such as processing artist documents, assembling artist and media materials, coordinating the CRAFTBOSTON preview party, planning and organizing the CRAFTBOSTON volunteer schedule, communicating with CRAFTBOSTON exhibitors via phone and email, as well as daily administrative duties. Interns are integral to successful show preparations as well as an important presence during the event. It is essential that interns are available during CRAFTBOSTON (March 25-29, 2009). Participants in the CRAFTBOSTON Internship Program work one to two days a week, for the duration of the fall semester, spring semester or full academic year. College credit can be earned through the intern’s college or university. At this time the internship is unpaid. The Society of Arts and Crafts Search Exhibition Gallery InternshipsResumes reviewed on a rolling basis The Exhibition Gallery Internship Program was developed in 1974 to provide internships to undergraduate and graduate students seeking to learn about and contribute to the exciting field of contemporary crafts, while simultaneously gaining valuable experience in preparation for entry into today’s competitive job market. The Society of Arts and Crafts, established in 1897, is the oldest non-profit crafts organization in the United States. Our mission is to support excellence in crafts by encouraging the creation, exhibition, collection and conservation of the work of craft artists and by educating and promoting public awareness of fine craft. Participants in the Exhibition Gallery Internship Program work one to two days a week for the duration of the school semester or summer term. College credit can be earned through the intern’s college or university. The intern would work for a total of 6-12 hours per week. At this time the internship is unpaid. Qualifications include: • An interest in contemporary arts and crafts • An enthusiastic and reliable nature • Interest in being involved in the physical aspects of installing exhibitions • Ability to engage with gallery visitors • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and Design applications preferred Interns will assist in the many aspects involved in carrying out an exhibition. These include, but are not limited to; brainstorming exhibition ideas, compiling artists’ information, installing shows (painting, lighting, designing wall labels, creating artists resume book, being available during opening receptions), developing press materials (images and text), safely packing and shipping art objects. Various other projects will develop over the course of the internship. The intern will work directly with the Exhibition Manager on most projects, thus gaining hands-on experience as well as guidance and advice.
