LECTURE—Finding the 'WOW'- a curator, collector, designer and juror's journey, Jan Katz 12:00pm Jan Katz, Curator Emerita and Founder of The Center for Southern Craft and Design, Ogden Museum of Southern Art, explores some of the clues to look for in mapping out your own journey into collecting. Special consideration is given to learning to create your own visual vocabulary, tapping into your own visual power, making authentic visual choices and finding out something about yourself in the process. |
![]() | LECTURE—Iron in Architecture; The Yale Art Galleries Staircase Project, John Rais 1:00 pm In 2009, John Rais, Craftboston Metal Artist, was commissioned to design and create a decorative forged iron railing for Yale Art Galleries main staircase as part of their permanent collection. It involved researching the history of the building, original intentions of the architect, and developing a theme that works with the present day. He will show the research and design evolution, techniques involved and the installation. |

They will be demonstrating that objects can not only look beautiful, but they can sound beautiful as well. |

LECTURE—The Aesthetics of a Place, Kat Cole 12:00 pm Kat Cole, Craftboston Metal Artist, has been inspired by her experiences in different states and geographic climes; she has found meaning and connection through the observance and intimate awareness of the places she has inhabited. Recollections of specific places are transferred in her work into objects of adornment that share personal experiences of these abstracted landscapes. |

LECTURE– Touch in Real Time, Holly Hanessian 2:00 pm Holly Hanessian explores ceramics at the intersection of neuroscience and emotion with her project "Touch in Real Time". Her project combines a hands on moment between two people and explores where the power of Touch resides in the brain as well as the social and cultural issues as we spend more time digitally with each other and less time physically being with each other. |
